We are living in some very unusual times. I cannot think of a time when one person could issue an executive order (president, governor, mayor, etc.) that can ban people from meeting, cancel events, virtually close businesses and everyone simply do it.
I have a friend that arrived in San Francisco Wednesday and the next day told their event was cancelled and that groups of less than 250 people, had to remain a minimum of 6 feet apart. I wondered how that was going to work for all those people trying to get flights home since the event was cancelled.
Now before anyone starts attacking me, I’m not downplaying the need to be wise and doing whatever can be done for curbing the spread of the Covid-19 virus. However, there is something taking place that I think is interesting if not disturbing.
People are panicking at a level not seen since September 11, 2001 with the attack on the World Trade Center. It was within days of that event, that the government instituted the Patriot Act; effectively in the name of safety, changing our lives forever. Americans with little resistance, surrendered some fundamental rights as citizens in exchange for the safety of society.
Once again, we are seeing the same thing happening except under different circumstances. Instead of terrorists flying planes into buildings, we have terror that is spreading faster than the actual Covid-19 virus. And with that, controls are being put in place for the safety of the masses and once again, how quickly people are accepting them.
Now, following reports that Beijing had “quarantined” dirty cash, the World Health Organization has warned that the virus could survive on paper currencies potentially spreading Covid-19 within communities, and across the world.
The WHO's warnings came after the People's Bank of China last month started disinfecting currency deposited at Chinese banks using ultraviolet light, before quarantining the bills for a week before releasing them back into circulation.
WHO went on to say, “We would advise people to wash their hands after handling banknotes and avoid touching their face. When possible, it would also be advisable to use contactless payments to reduce the risk of transmission.”
The fact that one of the world's major NGOs is taking this opportunity to proclaim the virtues of ‘paperless’ money is hardly a surprise. The agenda of those being used to usher in a cashless society has been underway for years. And with the outbreak of Covid-19, China is pushing this solution now…and fear is the motivating factor!
Yes, a viral outbreak is a significant danger to us all; however, an even greater threat is the supposed cure. Trading our economic and social freedom in the name of stopping the coronavirus?
The bigger picture is clear that moments like these are conditioning the nations of the world for a future event foretold in the Bible. A world leader and a One-World Government will one day arise requiring everyone to accept it or suffer the consequences. As we see now, fear is a powerful force in taming the masses.
But the Christian whose life is founded in Him and His Word, need not worry or fear. Jesus clearly stated in Luke 21:26, 28 – “…men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth… 28 Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”
Times are looking up!
